Deputy Head of Estates

Full time, 39 hours per week 

We are seeking a proactive and highly organised Deputy Head of Estates to support the safe, compliant and efficient operation of our diverse estate. Working closely with the Head of Estates & Transport, you will lead the delivery of planned and reactive maintenance, statutory compliance and estate improvement activities across our School, College, Residential facilities, and off-site properties.

This is a varied, hands-on role with responsibility for maintaining safe, accessible and welcoming environments for our students, staff, visitors and volunteers.

About the Role

As Deputy Head of Estates, you will:

  • Provide day-to-day leadership and line management to the Estates and Facilities teams.
  • Lead planned preventative maintenance programmes and support the delivery of reactive maintenance
  • Manage statutory compliance across areas including fire safety, electrical testing, asbestos, gas safety, water hygiene, Legionella and lifting equipment
  • Act as Responsible Person for Legionella management and asbestos control
  • Carry out estate inspections, condition surveys and risk assessments
  • Manage contractors, monitor quality and support the delivery of minor projects and estate improvements
  • Support budget planning, procurement and lifecycle maintenance programmes

About you

The ideal candidate will have experience supervising staff, managing contractors and experience in carryout inspections and risk assessments.

  • Possessing strong leadership, communication and organisational skills
  • Hold or be willing to obtain a Pool Planter Operators qualification and IOSH/NEBOSH Health & Safety qualification
  • Relevant experience in a similar role is essential, along with a hands-on, adaptable approach and a willingness to learn
  • Strong teamwork and problem-solving skills
